Book your holiday with us and benefit from inside information on what there is to do on the island.
Details of most of the following activities are not available online; such is the developing nature of the island.
We offer you the whole package - we can advise you, make bookings, and even arrange transfers for you.
Koh Tao has something for every diver. Learn to dive, get into technical diving, become a dive professional, or sign up for a skin-diving course.
Ko Tao has an amazing range of pampering experiences, from a luxury hilltop spa package, to a skilled local Thai massage.
Just to give you an idea, the price of an entire day of pampering, including sauna, body wraps and scrubs, facial and massage at the nicest spa on the island will cost you about the same as a 1-hr massage in London. Amazing! And a local Thai massage (a proper one – we can advise you) will only cost you around 400 THB. Yes, we know what you’re thinking – you can have one everyday!!
Do you want to amaze your friends not only with your smooth brown skin (from the sun and the massages of course), but with some kick-ass new skills? You can now take Thai Boxing lessons from real Thai boxers. They do not really speak English so your cries of “Enough! Please have mercy!” will not be understood. Oh well at least you’ll be earning your evening beers!
You can also spend an entertaining evening watching professional Thai Boxing at Ko Tao’s No Problem Bar Stadium. Here, the boxers are brought over from Bangkok, so you get to watch the real deal - professional Muay Thai. Paul, our head instructor, entertains with his vivid intelligent commentary. Er, well that’s before the 10th Singha Beer - after that expect tawdry slur. But we think he does it with typical Kiwi charm!
The other Thai boxing stadium on the island mixes it up a bit, so you get to watch the local boys and the occasional dive instructor beating each other up – not quite the same technique, but entertaining just the same.
If you want to keep up with your training regime whilst on holiday, Ko Tao has the Monsoon Gym with some basic training equipment and weights.
Ko Tao isn’t quite at the point where it offers daily aerobics sessions on the beach (thank god), but many people take advantage of the island’s natural features to get or keep fit. For example, you can run along the trails in the remoter parts of the island, or take early morning swims in the beautiful waters just off Sairee Beach.
There are also daily yoga sessions on the island. We’ve been meaning to go there everyday for 8 months now… aaah the power of good intentions.
Ko Tao has every kind of cuisine: Mexican, Indian, Danish, American, British, Meditteranean, Italian, Aussie, Korean. In fact we were quite surprised when some international students from Bangkok told us that Ko Tao has the best selection and the best quality of “Farang” food in Thailand.
But you’re probably interested in the Thai cuisine – well of course there is everything you could want, to suit any budget. You can eat top quality Thai cuisine, seated on a terrace of Ko Tao’s luxury hilltop restaurant, watching as the sun goes down. Or you can swat flies at the local Thai kitchen where you’ll get simply the freshest, best Thai curries available – and ridiculously cheap. And there are many places in the middle.
As with any tourist destination choosing your nightly restaurant can be a lottery, so we can offer a helping hand. Because we eat out every night (a dive instructor’s life is a hard one), we can let you in on the island’s top culinary secrets.
If it is a party you’re looking for then it all happens on the beach. The entertainment begins with watching the sunset at one of the various beach bars, listening to some chilled out music. As the evening rolls on you can eat at one of the many restaurants along the beach. Then go to Vibe Bar, Dry Bar or Lotus Bar, sit on some cushions on the beach and watch some artists twirling fire to the appropriate beat. For those that prefer not to sit, you can get a drink, mingle, and have a dance. These bars carry on till about one or two in the morning.
For those who want to experience some of the local Thai culture and avoid the European style bars, one only has to discover the infamous No Problem Bar, Tree Bar and the KT bar as they are affectionately known by the locals. One is able to obtain refreshment from midday onwards and these bars rock till the wee hours of the morning.
For the sports enthusiasts who even on holiday just can’t “let it go”, there are several sports bars on the island. At the main port is the Safety Stop and just around the corner, Dirty Nelly’s. In Sairee Village, there is the world famous on Ko Tao… Choppers!! All of these bars also have a great menu and a variety of ales on tap to allow you to celebrate or commiserate.
Not ready to retire?? At the southern end of Sairee Beach is where everyone congregates. Three clubs take it in turns to operate. Of course the time of year and the crowds dictate this also. You’ll have a pretty good idea of where it’s at by the time you’re ready to move… it’s pretty much like a migration!
Learn to cook a Thai dish or two so you can impress your dinner party invitees. You can also pass round your holiday snaps, put on your Open Water DVD, and regale your guests with hilarious Ko Tao anecdotes. You can do this on a number of occasions before people get really bored.
New to Ko Tao! Our own island style sailing Charter Company, offering pretty much whatever you want. You can cruise in style to the full moon party, with on-board tunes and drinks. Or you can charter a sail boat (including skipper) for the day, take a picnic and do a tour of the island, stopping off in a few different bays for some snorkelling. You can choose to do a safari for a number of days, and go island hopping, including a visit to the local marine park. You can also take an introductory course in sailing.
Being on the water is as much fun as being below! Snorkelling, wakeboarding, water-skiing, kite-surfing, windsurfing and kayaking are all available on Koh Tao.
Coral Grand Divers offers professionally led snorkelling and skin diving trips with a PADI Divemaster on an air-conditioned luxury snorkelling vessel. You can also enrol in the PADI Skin Diver course that leads to a full PADI certification as a PADI Skin Diver.
Getting annoyed with your holiday roommate already? We have the answer. Gun him down island style at Ko Tao’s very own jungle paint balling experience.
Luxuriate in a Japanese open-air bath with more than 10 kinds of herbs. Handcrafted by Japanese craftsmen, the bath house has five open air bath tubs to choose from, surrounded by coconut trees and magnificent rocks. Every bath comes with a herbal ball, so you can massage your body and inhale the aromatic steam. Extremely relaxing!
10-pin bowling Ko Tao style! Megabowl it ain’t, but we can guarantee you’ll have fun. Just don’t expect high technology. Actually don’t expect technology – there are no machines erecting the pins, just plain simple human beings!
Mini-golf. 9 holes of varying degrees of frustration. As with anything in Thailand, you break the golf club, you pay for it.
